Student FAQ

Why did we choose Brightspace?

After conducting a thorough LMS assessment in 2021, USC selected Brightspace as its new Learning Management System (LMS) for its superior capabilities in communication, customer support, exams, accessibility, grading, user-friendly, student-centered features and more.

When will my classes be taught in Brightspace?

Courses taught previously in Blackboard will be taught in Brightspace starting Summer 2024. You may notice some of your peers have a Spring 2024 course in Brightspace. These courses are part of a pilot program. The Brightspace pilot program involves a select number of courses in preparation for a campus wide launch beginning Summer 2024.

Is Brightspace replacing all LMS (i.e., Blackboard and Canvas)?

Brightspace will replace Blackboard courses starting in Summer 2024. Schools and academic units using other LMS platforms, such as Canvas, will not change at this time.

Are all classes moving to Brightspace, or just some?

For Spring 2024, a select number of courses will use Brightspace for the pilot program. All existing and new Blackboard courses will transition to Brightspace in Summer and Fall 2024. Schools and academic units using other LMS platforms, such as Canvas, will not change at this time.

What will the process look like for Incompletes with the transition from Blackboard to Brightspace?
